Land as Resource, Land as Source of All
This exhibit brings together 2 contrasting themes:
Unnatural: Extractions and Violations that Fuel our Lifestyles
Capitalism views nature as resource to be exploited. Resource extraction had led to ongoing violence against the earth and many communities across the world. We often look away from our own complicity in this harm, because it is too difficult to contemplate just how much our modern comforts rely on this abusive relationship with the Earth. As climate change creeps into every corner of our lives, we can longer afford the “cheap” energy and products that take up all the space in our lives. These works seeks to convey negative environmental impacts in an up close and personal way, offering an opportunity to look, see, and feel our impacts. With all that we are losing, it is time to start thinking (and acting) for all we can save.
Nature’s Symphony of Joy and Connection
While nature is often commodified for its resources and beauty, and controlled for profit, it still is a source of deep joy. It holds the power to heal and restore, providing balance to people and communities. These works offer reflections on the artists’ personal relationships with nature, providing an opportunity for you to reflect on your own relationship with the earth and its creatures.
